In Byeongseon was born on November 22, 1962 in South Korea. He lived his life happily with his dear family - his wife, his daughter and his son.

In early April of 2014, Byeongseon went to the doctor's after having some strange symptoms. The doctor found nothing abnormal, reassuring Byeongseon that he was perfectly healthy and nothing was wrong.

Just a few weeks later, Byeongseon was hit with an unfathomable tragedy when his youngest child and only son, Taebeom, died in one of the most horrific maritime catastrophes to have ever happened. The Sewol Ferry was en route to Jeju Island from Incheon when it capsized on April 16, 2014. The majority of the 476 people on board were sophomores from Danwon High School, who were traveling to Jeju Island for a school field trip. When the ship started to sink, the crew ordered everyone to stay in their cabins and await help. However, the coast guard only rescued those who'd come out on deck and didn't even attempt to rescue anyone inside the ship. The Korean government, ashamed at how the event unfolded, blocked volunteer rescuers and made excuses as to why rescue efforts could not continue. By the time they started recovery efforts, they were only finding bodies. There were 250 high schoolers inside the ship and not a single one of them survived. The majority of them were still alive during the three hours it took for the Sewol to sink, but they all eventually drowned or died of hypothermia. Those kids had trusted adults with their lives and were left to die. Taebeom's body was recovered four days after the sinking, and he was cremated and inurned at the Pyeongtaek Lakeside Memorial Park.

Three months after the Sewol sank, Byeongseon went back to the doctor after yet more strange symptoms. The news he got this time around, however, was devastating. He had end-stage bile duct cancer, a cancer that would have been able to be cured if they'd caught it months earlier.

Byeongseon passed away peacefully, surrounded by his remaining family on October 26, 2014. His last words, spoken gently with a smile, were: "It's Taebeom."

His ashes were inurned in a double-niche that he now shares with his son.
