William "Bill" Kersbergen Birth: September 27, 1923 Death: August 28, 2000 William "Bill" Kersbergen, age 76, of Rock Valley, died of an apparent heart attack at his home Monday, August 28,2000. The funeral service was held Friday, September 1 at Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Mike Molenaar presiding. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born September 27, 1923 at Rock Valley, son of John J. and Martha (Velgersdyk) Kersbergen. After graduating from Rock Valley Public High School be enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 19 years. Bill married Katherine Hare on November 15, 1953. Bill worked at the National Steel Ship Yard at San Diego, CA before he and his children moved back to Rock Valley in 1966 where he began working for Kooima Manufacturing and later was a Rock Valley Policeman for 15 years. Bill enjoyed golfing, lawn work and devoted his life to his children and grandchildren. He donated to many Christian charities, always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
Surviving relatives include his son Billy of Rock Valley, four daughters: Mary and her husband, Les Ranschau of Rock Valley, Kathy and her husband, Randy Marra of Hull, IA, Sharon Kersbergen of Boyden, IA, Linda and her husband, Sean Donohue of LeMars, IA; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Elizabeth Junge of Rock Valley and Elsie Goodman of San Diego, CA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin granddaughters, Marsha and Marie Ranschau; two infant brothers; three brothers: Gerrit, John, and Nick Kersbergen; and his sister Martha Oosten.
