Born August 2, 1922 in Ford City (Wyandotte), Michigan, Gerald's formative years were spent in River Rouge, Michigan. After obtaining his undergraduate degree at the University of Detroit and medical degree from Wayne State University, Gerald completed an internship at Harper Hospital in Detroit and an Internal Medicine Residency at the Allen Park, VA hospital. Gerald practiced Internal Medicine with staff affiliation at Providence Hospital for most of his career, serving patients throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. He also served a term as Chief of the Medical Staff. Following his retirement, he enjoyed his family, many hobbies, and watching the boat traffic on the Detroit River.
Preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Magdalen (Fahndrich) Aben, he is survived by his spouse of 63 years Joan (Valade) Aben, and his children; Gerald (Jean Arsenault) Aben, Mark (Martha Horvath) Aben, Susan (Jim) Sollinger, Joseph (Jodie Dulimba) Aben, Mary (George) Rennie and John (Mary Perosky ) Aben. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
