Ray Shelton, 59, of 1229 N. Fourteenth St., was killed in a headon crash of two automobiles occupied by Springfield residents at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 1949, on U.S. 36 about two miles east of Jacksonville.
Mr. Shelton, an employee of the Sangamo Electric Co. for 26 years, was supervisor of the automatic screw machine department.
He was a member of the Sangamo Electric 25 Year club, lodge 4, A.F.&A.M., and of the Third Presbyterian church.
He is survived by his wife, Sophie M.; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Arlene Dennison, Springfield; three brothers, Edgar, Springfield; Walter C., Kansas City, Mo.; and Hal M., Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Sprouse, Springfield; two grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at Bisch Memorial home.
Burial was in Roselawn cemetery.
