Obituary from the Greensboro News & Record, October 23, 2016

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gladys Francis Smith has passed away at the age of 90. Originally from Chicago, she later met and married Bill Smith. She lived and traveled around the world as a military wife until his passing. She made a career as a cosmetic artist with Max Factor and ultimately made Greensboro her home. Her only daughter, GinaMarie Smithey, survives her.
Gladys’s legacy is her love of life, the joy she found in the little things, the smiles and laughter she gave most generously to others, the many friends she made and joined together, and her strong faith in God.
There will be a private memorial in her honor at an undisclosed location. In lieu of a public memorial, however, Gladys has requested the following:
- Send a card or letter to an old friend for no reason, and think of her as it’s written and mailed.
- Give a toast to life in her name.
- Take a Sunday drive on Thursday and think of her as you pass God’s beauty.
- Stop at a lemonade stand and overpay in her honor.
- Donate your time and resources to any cause as she would. - Everyone and everything needs help from time to time. Donations in her honor can be made to the Declan Donoghue Foundation at declansfoundation.org
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Hearthside Homecare and Hospice of the Piedmont for the care and love shown to Gladys. And also thank Dr. Steve Daub for many years of exemplary care and friendship.
In closing, the family extends a prayer:
“...And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28
A PERSONAL NOTE: Gladys was my very dear friend and neighbor for many years. Her memory lives on in the hearts of many, including mine. Per her mother's request, GinaMarie travelled to various locations from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, lovingly spreading the ashes of her mother. The final pilgrimage stop was the waters of Lake Como, California, in August 2018.
