W.J. Allred was born in Electra, to Jake and Grace Dillard Allred, who preceded him in death. He married the former Barbara Ruth Thomas on Sept. 10, 1949, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He retired from Goodyear in Fort Worth and moved to Hawkins in 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawkins and volunteered at the Hawkins Helping Hands. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Don Allred; sisters, June Bevan, Katherine Woodley and Vivian Clark.
Survivors: Wife of 51 years, Barbara Thomas Allred of Hawkins; daughters, Betty McGovern of Austin and Deborah Kay Allred of Dallas; brother, Artie Allred of Fort Worth; and grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa McGovern.
