Linda Aileen Isbell, 82 of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Grace Hospital.

Born on September 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Luther Augustus "Shorty" Elmore and Linnie Farmer Elmore.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son, Dwight C. Isbell; six brothers, Ned, Fred, Thad, Oscar, Ted, and Paul Elmore; two sisters, Betty Hilton and Lucy Johnson.

Mrs. Isbell was a member of First Baptist Church Rhodhiss. When we lose someone, we often talk about those who are left behind. When it comes to Aileen Isbell that is an impossible task. There are too many names and people to mention. Her life was the living embodiment of what it meant to love, and to be loved. She took everyone in. Everyone was her family. Perhaps more importantly, she left a mark and made a difference to every single one of these people. She was especially influential to those closest to her. She made us better people. To understand, you just needed to sit down with her for a few minutes. Her kindness and sympathy were contagious. That is just who she was, giving with every breath. The strongest woman we have ever known may have passed away, but her legacy remains. We know that because of her, the world is a better place.

She is survived by her husband, Delford Dwight "Tiny" Isbell of the home; four daughters, Linda Smith of Drexel, Angie Winkler and husband David of Hickory, Jane Young of Hickory, Debbie Hill and husband Ricky of Icard; two sons, Kaiser Isbell and wife Scarlet of Claremont, Howard Isbell of Hickory; one brother, Tom Elmore of Icard; her grandchildren, Mandy Sherrill and husband Lance, Luke Smith, Eric Young and wife Lani, Jessica Thompson and husband Joe, Samantha Aileen Young, K.J. Isbell, Alayna Isbell, Jax Isbell, Silas Isbell; her great grandchildren, Devon Sherrill, J.T. Thompson, Jenna Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rhodhiss with Rev. Rick Miller Officiating and Speakers Eric Young and David Winkler. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery, Granite Falls.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at First Baptist Church Rhodhiss.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Rhodhiss, 200 Park Ave., Rhodhiss, NC 28667 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
