BATA (MIDDAGH) BEATTY

Bata Middagh*, daughter of Joris Middag and Marritje Martens, was born (date unknown) in Ulster County, New York, and baptized there on 26 September 1697 at the old Dutch Reformed Church (First Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Kingston); sponsors were Hendrick Bogard and Cornelia Martens. Batha was the second of nine children of Captain Joris Aertse Middagh, born 1674 in Hycoop, Holland and Marritje Martissen / Martens,** born in 1678 "under the jurisdiction of Albanie" New York.
Batha's father had emigrated to New Netherland and became one of the early citizens of what is now Brooklyn Borough, City of New York.
Her mother was the daughter of Marten Cornelise Van Ysselsteyn and Mayke Cornelius. Marten was a native of Ysselstein, Holland, who emigrated to New Netherland at least as early as 1660. He was one of the founders and original proprietors of Schenectady.
Robert Beatty and Bata Middagh, both residents of Marbletown, married in the old Dutch Reformed church, banns registered 17 May 1719.***
They had six children: John, Marretjen, Susanna, Joris (aka George), Margriet and Jane Beatty. With the exception of Susanna (birth year unknown), all of the children were baptized in the old Dutch Reformed church.
Bata Beatty died in Ulster County, New York.
It is believed that Bata Beatty may be buried in the churchyard of the old Dutch Reformed Church in Kingston where only a limited number of burial records have been found.
