HENDERSON -- Our beloved mother, Janabel Smithers Reed, born December 12, 1920, went to be with our Heavenly Father on December 27, 2006. She was the youngest of six daughters born to Francis Delilah and Calvin Noris Smithers in Snyder, Texas. Janabel served the Lord as choir director in Goldsmith, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and the Carlisle Baptist Church. She loved music from Bach to rock, and looked forward to the Dallas summer musicals each year. She was an avid reader, whose vocabulary could match any Ph.D., which made her a stickler for proper grammar. Janabel was preceded in death by her husband, Archie M. Reed, of 57.5 years After Archie's death, she moved to Dallas. Seven years ago, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Janabel is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Jannell Smith of Longview, and Kathie and Michael Taub of Dallas; three grandchildren and spouses, Mary Kathryn and Andy Erdelt of Palacios, Tony and Holly Smith of Plano, and Parker Taub of Colorado Springs; and two great-grandchildren, Aryn and Zoe Smith of Plano. Janabel will be fondly remembered at Walnut Place for the last year and a half for her sense of humor and laughter. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Crawford-Crim-Bryan Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery, under the direction of Crawford-Crim-Bryan Funeral Home in Henderson. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday evening, December 29, 2006, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3613 S. Broadway, Ste. 401, Tyler, TX 75701. Online tributes and condolences may be made to www.mem.com.
