Thomas D. Banks, Sr.

Resided in Waycross, GA

Mr. Thomas D. Banks, Sr., 84, died Thursday morning (August 6, 2015) at his son's residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Pierce County but had lived most of his life in Ware County. He retired from CSX Railroad as a machinist and served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Banks was a member of the Ware County Exchange Club where he served many positions including President, Treasurer, and the Georgia District Director and was awarded Exchangite of the Year for his service. He was founder of the Recreation Department Men's Softball League and had a passion for coaching little league sports. He was also a member of the Okefenokee Men's Bowling Association and a Volunteer Firemen.

Mr. Banks was a son of the late Marvin C. Banks and Gertrude Batten Banks. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Britt and Latrell Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Fosteen Banks of Waycross; a daughter, Debra Pearson (Joe) of Waycross; a son, Thomas D. Banks, Jr. (Kecia) of Waycross; seven grandchildren, Breanne Morris (Richard) of Vidalia, Clinton Banks (Haley Thigpen) of Waycross, Aaron Wiley Banks of Waycross, Kuff Thrift of Waycross, Pierce Thrift of Waycross, Kyle Pearson (India) of Bradenton, FL and children, and Justin Pearson (Mindy) of Waycross and children; a great grandson, Collin Morris of Vidalia; a sister, Pauline Kimbrell of Waycross; a brother, Wilton Banks (Evelyn) of Blackshear; special friends, Jack and Rose Westberry of Tampa, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday (August 8, 2015) at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Friday evening at Music Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o'clock.

Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church and members of the Ware County Exchange Club are asked to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:40 a.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31503.
