Disciple of Jesus Christ, Roman Catholic Saint. One of the original twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, Philip hailed from the city of Bethsaida and John the Evangelist connects him, in his recount of his disciple calling, with Andrew and Peter who both came from the same location. While it was he who introduced who Nathanael, later identified as Bartholomew, to Christ, he figures prominently in the Gospel of John, being asked by Jesus how to feed five thousand people and later himself asking Jesus to show the Father to those gathered for the Last Supper, enabling Jesus the opportunity to teach the unity between the Father and Son. Retained to have preached in Greece, Phrygia and Syria and to have suffered martyrdom, stoned to death while tied to a cross in the city of Hierapolis in present day Pamukkale, Turkey, his remains are found in Rome in the Basilica dei Santi Apostoli alongside those of fellow apostle James the Lesser.
