Michele Mertes, 73, Bowbells, ND, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Mohall, ND.
Michele Wallack was born June 22, 1943, the daughter of Bernard and Arina (Marion) Wallack, in Dallas, Texas. She was raised in Dallas, TX, before moving with her family to Atlanta, Georgia, during her grade school years. She graduated from North Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
Michele married Robert Mertes April 4, 1970, in St. Paul, MN. They made their home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Michele worked as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines based out of Minneapolis, MN, and Seattle, WA, for eight years. In 1976, Michele and Robert moved their family to Bowbells. They farmed small grains in Bowbells Township of Burke County, four miles southwest of Bowbells.
She enjoyed traveling the orient, gardening, planting flowers, knitting, baking, playing pinochle and racquetball. She was a dedicated, loving mother, wife and friend.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bowbells, where she was actively involved in the Altar Society.
Her loving family includes: husband of 46 years, Robert, Bowbells; daughters, Suzanne (Jerry) Rick, Aurora, CO, and Julie (Gregory) Murray, Atlanta, GA, and Sarah Mertes, Bowbells; grandchildren, Nicholas Murray, Erin and Josh Rick; sister, Susan Nielsen, Olympia, WA;
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michele was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Jen Nielsen; and nephew, Ben Nielsen.
Interment: will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bowbells, ND, in June of 2017.
