Inscibed (as written) on the tablet:
Hon. Stephen Willis Harris died September 11th 1822 in the 37th year of his age. Raised by distinguished talents. Tho cultivated under many dis-advantages to the highest station in his profession where the rigid integrity and disinierested conduer were equaly conpicuous But not eloquence: and eminence as a lawyer not wisdom and justice as a judge but the affectionate husband tender parent and faithful constant friend are engraved on the heart of survivors and tell through every feeling nerve how feeble and frail a memory departed worth is the cold unfeeling marble.
Beloved ashes! Sleep in silence here. Embalm'd by kind affections hallow'd tears. Sleep till the last loud trump shall shake the earth Then hail the glorious morn the new immortal.

Son of Sampson Harris (1763-1807) and Susannah Willis.
Husband of Sarah Hernden Watkins (1786-1870)
Father of the following children: Congressman Sampson Willis Harris, Mary Willis Harris, James Watkins Harris, Jane Harris, Stephen Willis Harris Jr, Ann Maria Harris, Susan Harris, and Thomas Eli R Harris.
Some family members are buried in Oconee Cemetery, in Athens, Clarke, GA.
