Horace Doss passed away in his home on Eastwood Drive in Trimble on November 10, 2016.

Born in rural Obion County on February 5, 1927, Horace was a lifelong resident of Northwest Tennessee.

He had been a resident of Trimble for almost 30 years, and of Obion for over 30 years prior to that.

As an electric lineman with Gibson Electric for 45 years, he seemed to know people everywhere he went. Horace Doss' was a life well lived. He was an exemplary Christian example, and he touched the lives of countless individuals at Trimble United Methodist Church and Obion First Baptist Church and in his everyday life.

Mr. Doss was preceded in death by his parents, Shellie and Florence (Vernon) Doss, two brothers, Elwood Doss and Morris Doss, a twin, and a son, Harry Doss.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Nelda Whitson Doss of Trimble, a son and daughter-in-law David and Robin Doss of Columbia, TN, and a sister Francis Poland of Union City, TN. He also leaves behind step children with his wife Nelda, Mike and Bonnie Whitson, Dennis and Margaret Prater, Ricky and Kathy Whitson all of Trimble, TN and a step son Randy Whitson of Isles of Capri, FL. In addition are grandchildren Shellie (Josh) Hurt and Kelley Doss of Columbia, TN, Jennifer (Brady) Fisher of Trimble, Steven Whitson and Jennifer Morrison of Springfield, TN, Diana (Justin) Ferguson of Mckenzie, TN, Jessica (Corey) Murray of Newbern, TN, Robert Whitson of Trimble, TN and Maxwell Whitson, of Isle of Capri, FL, along with nine great grandchildren.

Visitation with family will be from 5-8 PM on Saturday, November 12 at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, TN, and from 1-2 PM at Trimble United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM at the church, with burial at Pierce Cemetery in Trimble.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trimble United Methodist Church or the Community Cancer Fund of Dyersburg.
