She was born in Indianola, MS on August 3, 1957, the daughter of John (Stanny) Sanders and Janie Dale, and was a resident of Oakville for nearly 30 years.
She married the love of her life, Robert Hughes, on October 20, 1979 at her mother and father’s home in Greenwood, MS.
Mary had an unwavering passion for Christ and a love for writing and speaking about her faith. She authored stories, devotionals, poetry, Bible studies and was published in numerous books, magazines, and newspapers. As an active member of her beloved church, Canaan Baptist in St. Louis, Mary participated in Women’s Ministries and prayer circles and facilitated Bible studies. Her heart for God and Christ enabled her to reach out and touch the lives of many people; providing meals for the sick and bereaved, praying with friends through difficult times, and giving hope and love to all who crossed her path. She often said, “God is good all the time.”
She is survived by her husband, Robert Hughes and two daughters, Margo (Shane) Cook and Julie Hughes of St. Louis, MO and sister, Penny (Mack) Varner of Vicksburg, MS.
