Reuel was born in Texas KY, the son of George Alfred Caldwell Coffey and Elizabeth Frances Goode. Reuel married Mary Josephine Brown on August 20, 1909. They lived in Mt. Carmel, IL and Lawrenceville, IL. He was a railroad conductor for the CCC and St.Louis Railroad.
Reuel was the father of three sons and two daughters, one of which died in infancy. He had one grandson and six granddaughters. His wife passed away in 1955 and he relocated to Sarasota, Florida where he married Pauline Basham in 1947. Reuel moved back to Lawrenceville in 1963 and passed away there in 1966.
