Record setting college football player. The son of former NFL kicker Joe Danelo, Mario was the kicker for the University of Southern California Trojans. He attended San Pedro High School, where he played soccer and football and was an All-L.A. City first team linebacker as a senior in 2002. In 2005 he won the starting kicker's position with the Trojans and set the NCAA single-season records for extra points attempted (86) and extra points made (83). As a junior during the 2006 season he made 15 of 16 field goals and led the Trojans in scoring with 89 points. He missed only two field goals in his college career, (26 of 28), and was 127 for 134 on extra point attempts. Danelo made two field goals in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 2007 to help USC beat Michigan 32-18. His body was found on January 6, 2007 about 120 feet down a rocky cliff near Point Fermin lighthouse, and he is presumed to have died from an accidental fall.
