CAROLINE CLAIRE ATKINSON JOHNSON born july 31 1951 in houston texas. departed this world on December 23, 2006 in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was born on July 31, 1951 to Charles Wallace Atkinson and Eloise Gage DeLong in Bellaire, Texas where she lived most of her life. She was a 6th generation Texan, whose family came here during the days of the Texas Republic. Her father died when she was 1 year old and her mom remarried in 1956 to Charles Guy DeLong she was survived by her sister Leah Doyle and brother Tom DeLong,and 2 beloved nephews ,3 nieces, many grand nieces, nephews ,and 3 stepchildren and grandchildren whom she loved as her own .She was named after her Aunt Caroline and grandmother Mabel Clare Mount Atkinson.she was a beautiful happy girl and gone too soon.She loved scuba diving and dancing.
She had a long career in commercial property management companies such as Southmark Management and McCord Development in Houston. Claire and her husband, Bob recently moved to Port Charlotte Florida and into their new dream home. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed traveling, gardening, boating and fishing off Sanibel Island. Claire was a beloved wife daughter, sister and aunt and a "forever friend".
She was preceded in passing by her father Charles Wallace Atkinson, her mother Eloise Gage Atkinson DeLong and her Stepfather, Charles Guy DeLong.
She is survived by her husband of many years, Robert (Bob) Johnson, sister, Leah Atkinson Girard Doyle, and brother, George Thomas DeLong stepchildren, Kristi Jones, David Johnson, Karen Myers, nephews Johnny and Frank Girard, nieces, Kim Billings and Shannon Streger, grandchildren, Karla Jones, Kris Jones, Kevin Jones and Emma Myers, and many cousins from the Atkinson and Gage families. She was a wonderful sister and will be missed forever,Love you Claire,L
A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 1PM, with Reverend Bill Streger presiding.
