Arlene Mae Wotruba, 83, Maribel, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, December 5, 2014 at a local hospital. She was born March 9, 1931 in Manitowoc Co., daughter to the late Joseph and Anna (Rezek) Hynek. She married Lawrence Wotruba, Sr., on June 22, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kellnersville, and he preceded her in death in 1998. Arlene and her husband owned and operated Wotruba’s Market in Maribel. Arlene was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown where she was a Christian Mother. In her early years she was active in the Maribel Lions Club, where she enjoyed working the concession stands.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Lulu. She enjoyed playing cards, weaving rugs, bingo, her garden, canning, baking, fishing, and rummage sales. Arlene also liked going to Fay Lake Resort.
She will be deeply missed by her three sons: Larry (Donna) Wotruba, Randy (RaeAnn) Wotruba, and Joe (Lori) Wotruba, all of Maribel; two daughters, Julie (Dan) Pantzlaff, and Laurie Jean (Scott) Simons, both of Denmark; grandchildren: Anne (Kenley) Bruss, Jesse (Tina) Wotruba, Heather (Josh) Kriesel, Sarah (Adam) Grusznski, Megan (Tony) Francken, Randy (special friend-Sarah) Wotruba, Justin (Brenda) Loritz, Brittney (special friend-Kyle VandeHey) Wotruba, Amy (Seth) DeMerritt, Jason (Shelley) Pantzlaff, Benjamin Simons, Melissa Simons, and Emily Simons; great-grandchildren: Max Bruss, Sam Bruss, Zac Wotruba, Aislinn Wotruba, Olivia Grusznski, Madelyn Loritz, Callie DeMerritt, and Jackson DeMerritt; one sister, Evelyn Hussong; sisters-in-law, Betty Wotruba, Mary (Ira) Ropson, Anna-Rose Shimon, and Carol Wotruba Mikle.
In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by Harlan Hussong, Martin Wotruba, James and Beverly Wotruba, and Donald Shimon.
Family and friends may call Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty R, Denmark, where there will be a Parish Prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A special thank you to neighbors, Betty and Vic Kvitek for all the many things they did for her, to Mary and Barb for all the card playing, and to hospice, especially the two Kristens and Marie.
