Sophia Abbott was essentially a single Mom. Her husband, Thomas Abbott left her to find work in the new world, Canada. After several years, he returned to move the family to Canada as he had found work in Windsor, Ontario. Sophia, my Grandmother, did not want to move to Canada and neither did their daughters: Hilda, Vera, Marjorie and Kathleen.

Thomas moved back to Canada and disappeared for years. Through the genealogy work of his Granddaughter, Gillian Hollands, it was discovered that he had passed away in Windsor, Ontario. And she also discovered from his obituary that there was mention of a second wife and daughter.

It is very ironic that after WWII, Kathleen married a Canadian, George Hollands and moved to Edmonton, Alberta as a War Bride, Marjorie married a Welshman, a childhood crush, Edward Shore and he was transferred to Edmonton in 1949 with the RAF and later transferred to the RCAF and stayed in Canada. Hilda Sophia moved to Edmonton in the early 1950's and married a Canadian Steve Gordey. Vera was the only one that did not move to Canada. However, Sophia and Vera made several trips to Canada to visit.
