Mr. Caperton, 97, was a life-long resident of Louisville. John was the eldest son of Hugh John and Dorothy Bonnie Caperton of Louisville. He graduated from the Asheville School, Asheville, NC and Cornell University with a degree in mechanical engineering. John serviced as an officer with the US Navy in World War II. He held numerous business positions including at Jeff Boat in Indiana and his own firm, Top Brass, Inc.
Preceding him was his wife, Marion Turner Lambert; son, John Hays Caperton III; and brother, Lawrence Allan Caperton; and sister, Dorothy Caperton Kingsley.
John was a long-time member of the River Valley Club; past president of the Veteran’s Motor Club of America (VMCCA) and the Kyana regional chapter of The Antique Automobile Club of America. John’s interest extended to restoring antique cars and steam engines, roadway trains, antique radios; genealogy, and historic events. John served in several elected and appointed positions with the City of Glenview. He was very fond of his Dachshund, Wanda.
John is survived by his brother, Hugh John Caperton Jr. (Elizabeth) of Westwood, MA and his daughter-in-law, Joanne Sisk Caperton of Floyds Knob, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and a great grandnephew.
John and his family would like to give special thanks to Alan Vannatta, Mary Donahue, and the staff at Dee’s Senior Home Health Care for their attention and devotion.
A graveside service is planned at Cave Hill Cemetery on Saturday, December 10 at 11 am. Please meet at the Broadway entrance of Cave Hill at 10:45 am.
In lieu of flowers, John requests contributions be made to: the Filson Club of Louisville and the Kentucky Humane Society.
