Anne was born in Greensboro, June 16, 1921 to P.A. and Virginia Townsend Hayes. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1938, from Mary Baldwin College in 1942, and did graduate work at UNC-Chapel Hill. She married William Paul Brewer, Sr., 'Bill,' in 1943 and taught school before they had three sons. She later worked part-time as a psychometrist with UNCG.

Anne loved her family, tennis, bridge, dancing, and her church. She served as a circle leader, president of the Women of the Church, an honorary member of the church board, president of the Morris Class, taught Sunday School with her husband Bill, and spent many years as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She particularly loved taking friends to Christian Women's Club, where many were introduced to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ for the first time. She served Mobile Meals, visited the elderly and shut-ins, and loved sharing flowers with everyone. She was active in the Greensboro Junior League, the Greensboro Cotillion, was a charter member of the N.C. Historical Book Club, president of N.C. Pharmaceutical Wives, president of the Kirkwood Garden Club, and president of the Step Set Dance Club.

She was widowed in 1987, and remarried in 1999 to John Lorraine Davis, who died in 2013. She constantly remarked how blessed she was to have been loved by two wonderful men. Anne was known for her ready smile, her friendliness and her beauty. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who have known and loved her.
