Andrew Chando, Sr., 92, US Navy (Retired) formerly of Phillipsburg, NJ and Bethlehem, PA, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016, at The Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC. Andrew was born February 25, 1924 to Joseph and Anna (Antolick) Chando in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was one of eleven children. On December 10, 1942, Andy began his 20 year career in the US Navy, as a Boatswain's Mate First Class, serving with honor and distinction in World War II in Europe and the South Pacific to include the invasion of Italy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He retired from the Navy in 1966. He later worked for the State of New Jersey, where he eventually retired. He loved his family, his God and Country and was actively involved in his Church, St Peter and St Paul Byzantine Catholic Church and with the Knight of Columbus where he was bestowed the highest Honor. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Fleet Reserve Association. Andrew is survived by his Son, Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Army (USA) (Retired) Andrew J. Chando currently employed as a Program Manager with DHS; Daughter-in-Law, Dr. (Colonel) USA Jacqueline (McGarity) Chando; and Grandchildren Heather (20) and Joshua (11); Sister Helen (Berezny) Vargo of Bethlehem, PA, brothers, Edward Chando of Phillipsburg, NJ and Emil Chando of Firestone, Co; and numerous nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by his beloved wife Olga (Ferency) Chando, his parents Joseph and Anna Chando, and siblings Mary Muller, Joseph Jr., Peter, Steven, John, George, and his twin brother William Chando. Calling hours will be held at Finegan Funeral Home in Alpha, NJ on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10 am at Finegan Funeral Home on 924 Second Ave, Alpha, NJ with Father Pete officiating. The Interment will be at St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Alpha, NJ. www.fineganfh.com.
