TOWNSEND - Ethel M. (Shepherd) Borneman, 82, of 6 School St. died Monday in Mystic Rehabilitation Center, Fitchburg, after a long illness.

Her husband, Arthur B. Borneman Sr., died in 1983. She leaves two sons, Arthur B. Borneman Jr. of Townsend and Wallace F. Borneman of Fitchburg; four daughters, Barbara J. Borneman and Eleanor B. Lauze, both of Townsend, Dorothy M. Thompson of Luenenburg, Joyce E. Hicks of Rome, N.Y.; a sister, Lena Barron of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, Edward Shepherd of Hudson, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson; nephews and nieces. Another son, Richard E. Borneman, died in 1984. She was born in Derry, N.H., daughter of Alfred and Ada (Armstrong) Shepherd.

Mrs. Borneman was a machine operator at the former Independent Lock Co. in Fitchburg before retiring several years ago. She had also worked at Grant Plastics Co. in Townsend.

She attended Townsend Congregational Church. She was a past noble grand of the former E.A. Spaulding Rebekah Lodge 124, and was a member of Middlesex Rebekah Lodge 176 of Groton.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 tonight. Memorial donations may be made to Townsend Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 465, Townsend 01469.
