TOWNSEND: Arthur B. "Buster" Borneman, Jr., 88, a lifelong Townsend resident, died Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his residence.
Buster was born in Townsend, May 27, 1933, one of seven children born to Arthur B. and Ethel (Shepherd) Borneman and was a member of the Townsend High School Class of 1951.
In 1953 Buster enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
For 38 years Buster worked at Hollingsworth & Vose Company in West Groton, retiring in 2012.
He served on the Townsend Fire Department for 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 199 in Townsend for over 50 as well as a founding member of the Legion Firing Squad, serving as its Commander for 50 years. He enjoyed gardening and was well known for his squash.
Buster leaves his wife of 60 years, Estella M. (Vadney) Borneman; three sons and daughters in law, Gary and Maureen Borneman of Ashby, Alan and Penney Borneman, Brian and Becky Borneman all of Townsend; his daughter, Julie A. Stockwell and her husband Robert of Holden; three sisters, Barbara Borneman, Dorothy "Dolly" Thompson both of Leominster, Joyce Hicks of Rome, NY; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Richard Borneman of Townsend, Eleanor Lauze of Leominster and Wallace "Bucky" Borneman of Fitchburg.
