ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Janet Elaine Mathews will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes Chapel in Rochester, with the Rev. David Rossow officiating. Interment will be in Oronoco Cemetery.
Mrs. Mathews, 74, of Douglas, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2007) at Seasons Hospice, following a brief illness with cancer.
Janet Elaine Buske was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Rochester. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1950. On Feb. 25, 1951, she married Alvin M. Mathews in Rochester. For the past 52 years, they lived in Douglas. They wintered regularly in Apache Junction, Ariz., the past 10 years. She was a homemaker and did in-home tax preparation for Herold & Herold Tax Services Co. for more than 25 years. Her husband worked at the former Libby's Canning Co. for 44 years. They retired in 1995. She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and gardening, and in recent years began researching genealogy.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Cindy (Bob) Gardner of Rochester, Judy (Larry) Kunz of Rockville, Minn., and Chris (Mike) Keefe of Kasson; two sons, Larry (Brenda) of Byron and Joel of Douglas; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Bob) Stuve of Rochester and Phyllis (Bill) Marshall of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a brother, Donald (Kay) Buske of Rochester. She was preceded in death by two brothers, a grandson and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and an hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
