Ambrosio Hernandez, 84, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 28, 2016, at Sacred Heart Church.

A rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M., Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends visitation at 7:00 P.M.

Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, with military honors by the United States Marine Corps.

Ambrosio was born Friday, April 1, 1932, in Richland, Kansas, the son of Augustine and Frances (Garcia) Aguirre.

He was a lifelong Ottawa resident.

Ambrosio served in the United States Marines from December 1951 to December 1959 attaining the rank of private first class.

Ambrosio was united in marriage to Isabel Jimenez February 27, 1953, in Soledad, California. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2001.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jose Sabbata.

Survivors include his son, Gregorio Hernandez and significant other Brenda Robertson of Ottawa; twin daughters, Carolyn Hernandez and significant other Abel Perea of Ottawa, and Catherine Dopp also of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Mariposa Martin, Mirasol Wooster, Mariquita Dopp, Robert Retzer, Francisca Gutierrez, and Mark Retzer; and four great grandchildren, Ella Sky Ancheta, Marcus Patrick Martin, Isabella Jaclyn-Ann Wooster, and Catalina Bonnie-Sue Wooster.

He was employed as a trackman for Missouri Pacific Railroad for 40 years, retiring in the mid 1980s.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Mexican/American Action Group of Ottawa.

Ambrosio loved his family and the time he spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed building houses and gardening, always working for his family and friends. He respected those that worked hard to make their families successful.
