Catherine A. Dopp, age 61, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020, at AdventHealth Ottawa.

Cremation is planned.

Family will meet with friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary.

Cathy was born November 23, 1958 at Ottawa, the daughter of Ambrosio and Isabel (Jimenez) Hernandez.

She lived twenty-five years in Scranton, Kansas, and the rest of her life in Ottawa.

Cathy graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1976 and from Emporia State University with a double major in math and teaching receiving her bachelor’s degree and making the Dean’s Honor Roll.
She also graduated from Washburn University of Topeka with a Bachelor of Education May 13, 1984 and again made the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Cathy was united in marriage to David Lee Dopp in 1986 at Topeka, Kansas. They were later divorced.
She married Harold Hylton in June 1982. He preceded her in death on September 5, 1984.

Cathy was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She was a para/substitute teacher at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Topeka, Franklin, and Osage County schools. Cathy was employed three years as a Spanish teacher and ESL Para at Appanoose and Pomona schools in West Franklin USD 287, retiring in 2002.

She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Cathy enjoyed painting, drawing, reading, listening to books on tape, and gardening. She also enjoyed her dog Rubble and being outdoors. Above all, Cathy loved her family and the time they spent together and playing with the grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ambrosio and Isabel Hernandez.

Survivors include daughters, Mariposa Martin of Ottawa, Mirasol (Robert) Wooster of Bedford, Indiana and Mariquita Dopp of Hiawatha; brother, Greg Hernandez (Brenda Robertson)of Ottawa; twin sister, Carolyn Hernandez (Abel Perea) also of Ottawa; and four grandchildren, Marcus Martin, Isabella Wooster, Catalina Wooster, and Ashlyn Rash; and her dog Rubble.
