William Brown, one of the few surviving veterans of the Civil War in this vicinity, died at the Westchester County hospital at Eastview on Tuesday, May 16, 1916, aged 81 years, from old age and hardening of the arteries. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel in this place at 1:30 p.m. today with Rev. MacKay, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Mahopac Falls, officiating and internment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the chapel.

The deceased was born in New York state and served in the Civil War with Company 2, 6th Regiment Artillery of New York and was a member of Abraham Vosburgh Post No. 95 of Peekskill. For the past few years he has been unable to work and resided with his children, for the last seven years living with a daughter, Mrs. Hosea Head near here.

He leaves several children, Mrs. Hosea Head and Mrs. Eugene Head of this vicinity, Ferris and Cyrus of Jefferson Valley, and Joseph of Mahopac Falls, and a large number of grandchildren.
