DEATH OF THE REV. JAMES MCDOWALL –
We regret to record the death of the Rev. James McDowall, minister of the Evangelical Union Church, which took place at his residence here on Saturday evening. It is scarcely a year since Mr. McDowall was inducted to the pastoral charge of Strathmiglo Church, and, during the greater part of that time, he had been in delicate health. He was a very able and earnest preacher, and the Sabbath evening services, which he frequently held, were well attended by members of different denominations. In visiting the sick he was most assiduous, and these visits were extended to those outside his own congregation, by whom they were much enjoyed. He was an active and willing Christian pastor, and, in the advancement of the cause of Temperance he was always ready to lend a helping hand. By his congregation, and also by his family he was much beloved, and by others in the village, who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, he was held in the highest esteem. His remains were consigned to a resting place in Strathmiglo Churchyard on Tuesday in presence of a large company of members. Special services were conducted in the house of the deceased by the Rev. Mr. Davidson, Tillicoutry, and the Rev. Mr. Inglis, Broughty Ferry. At the grave Mr. Davidson conducted another impressive service, which was concluded with an appropriate prayer by the Rev. Mr. Davidson of the Free North Church, Strathmiglo. Much sympathy is expressed for the family of the deceased in their bereavement.
