Mr. Jack Kirby, age 78, of Nashville died Tuesday at Veterans Hospital in Nashville. He is survived by: wife of 12 years, Johnie Prichard Kirby.

One of two children of the late John Gordon Kirby Sr and Mary L. Lashinsky. His only sibling Mary Ann Kirby Adams died at the age of 66 on July 5 2008. He was a 1956 graduate of Smith County High School where he majored in music He was in the chorus and served as the president his senior year. He was a member of Division Four 1959 graduating class of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. In late 1963 he was instrumental in creating the first T.H.P. Boat Patrol of which he was one of the six charter troopers. In 1961 he was drafted into the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged in 1963. After retiring as a Tennessee State Trooper he was employed by the Nashville Network. He was on the production staff of the Hee Haw TV program and played guitar back-up on the Grand Ole Opry. He also continued in law enforcement working for the Davidson County Sheriff’s office. His only survivors are his wife and one first cousin.

Mr. Kirby is at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted on Monday, January 9, at 1:00 PM at Ridgewood Cemetery. Edward L. Anderson will officiate.
