He was the son of Aspinwall Cornwell, Sr. who was a Revolutionary War veteran from New York and Priscilla Mitchell Cornwell.
He married Frances M. Brace in Pennsylvania. She died in 1850 possibly due to complications from the birth of her last child.
They had the following children all born probably in Venango County.
Emily L. Cornwell born 1840.
Henry A. Cornwell born about 1841 .He died in the Civil War and is buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
Juliann Cornwell born 1843.
Lucy Jane Cornwell born April 27, 1845 . Married John Hawthorne.
Mary Mehina Cornwell born 1848.
Frances M. Cornwell born 1850.

Aspinwall at sometime after the death of his wife, moved West and is believed to be buried at an unknown location
in Minnesota.
