The Leech family had a long presence in Winnebago county, Wisconsin. The Leech family owned paper mills.

Frederic Leech graduated Lawrence college in 1937. During World War II, he was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard. It was around this time he met his wife, Joan Baragwanath.

Joan was the daughter of John and Neysa (McMein) Baragwanath of New York city. Her father was a mining engineer and her mother a noted illustrator. Her parents traveled in the pinnacle of intelligentsia social circles.

Frederic Leech became President of the Universal Paper Company in Appleton, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Joan, were active in charitable efforts and philanthropic endeavors. They supported the fine arts.

In addition to being President of the paper mill, Mr. Leech served on the Lawrence college board of trustees beginning in 1961. He was president of its board of trustees for three years, from 1972 to 1975. Other presidential posts included North Shore Golf Club, Bergstrom Art Center, and Mahler Glass museum. He was also on the board of the Actors Repertory Theater.

His widow and two siblings survived him.
