He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and upon return to Tennessee completed his Bachelor's degree at Tennessee Wesleyan, becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree. A life-long educator, Jasper began his career as a teacher in his hometown and eventually became principal of Polk County High School. For his teaching efforts and community service, he was inducted into the Polk County Hall of Fame.
Jasper was married to Gladys Eaves for 66 years and they were parents of daughters Patti and Beth.
He later moved with his family to Dalton, where he served as Valley Point High School's principal and as the first principal of Southeast Whitfield High School. Before retiring, he served as the Whitfield County School System Transportation Director.
Jasper was a member of the Central Church of Christ where he was a Deacon and Director of the Benevolence Program.
His hobbies included traveling, antique cars, woodworking and collecting. His greatest love was his family, and throughout his life he inspired those closest to him with his tenderness, curiosity, intelligence, wit, and compassion.
