Longtime trucker enjoyed travel, gardening
Ray L. Seward, 78, Hobbie, went home to the Lord on Thursday, June 18, 2009. His son, Dean, who died June 8, 1978, was waiting there with open arms. Ray battled cancer for four years.
Born July 12, 1930, in Pond Hill, he was the son of the late Fred and Verna Seward. He and his wife, Harriet, celebrated 55 years of marriage on March 4, 2009.
An over-the-road truck driver for 40 years, he retired from Wise Foods of Berwick in 1990.
He was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ in Slocum.
Ray loved to travel, especially to the islands of St. Maarten and Aruba every year. He took extra pride in his yard, pond and garden. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Dorothy Force; brother, Harold Seward; and son, Dean.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet; daughter, Rhonda Keller, and husband, James Jr., of Shavertown; grandson, Jason Ray, of Berwick; great-grandson, Gavin Ray Seward, of Florida; sisters: Betty Badman; Anna Vanfossen; and Shirley Wojcik; brothers: Fred Seward Jr. and George Seward.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 20, at Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, from 1-4 p.m. Memorial service to follow with Pastor Bill Mackey-Wisor and Pastor Bob Thomas presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion U.C.C. Church, c/o Diane Webster, R.R. 1, Box 106, Lily Lake, Wapwallopen, PA 18660 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3125, Williamsport, PA 17701
