Our sweet, loving mom and grandma passed away Saturday evening at her home of complications from Lymphoma. She fought a hard, courageous battle which included two surgeries due to the cancer and a broken hip. Being able to care for her during this time, left our family with many beautiful memories that we will cherish always.

Bessie was born on August 30, 1935 to Lucille B. Somers and Carl M. Morris in Ogden, Utah. She fought hard entering this world as well weighing in at only 3 lbs. Not expecting her to survive, the doctor never returned for a follow up visit. They placed her by a heated stove, in a shoe box and she grew up to be the strongest "farm girl" we have ever known. When she was 3, they moved to Wilson (West Haven) where she lived out the remainder of her life. Mom was a farm girl at heart and loved being outdoors-especially helping her grandpa on the farm. She rode her horse "Pearl" bareback through the field and also enjoyed playing the piano. Being an only child, she formed lifelong bonds with the neighbor kids whom she adored. As an adult, she enjoyed driving the tractor, fixing fences, raising cows, and bringing up her family. Mom took much pride in her place, knowing how hard her grandparents and mother worked to keep it.

Bessie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught primary in her younger years. She graduated from Weber High in 1953 in Ogden, Utah. She bought her first car at the age of 14 while working at Newberry's after "fibbing" about her age so she could get the job. Later, she worked at IRS, retiring from the Criminal Investigation Dept. Mom loved this job and made many lifelong friends there. She married Carl G. Talbot in 1954 in Malad, Idaho and they raised five children together up until his death in 1988. This changed her world forever, but she continued on as a single parent, and took much pride in spending time with her grandchildren.

Mom was one of the most humbled, Christ like people we have ever known and was a caretaker to many. Her generous, loving ways came natural to her which she shared with everyone she encountered. Family was her entire life and she lit up every time a grandchild walked into the room. Our summers will never be the same without her famous "Grandma" party that she held every year and of course, the Jazz will never know what a huge fan they just lost. But if we could have changed one thing about her, it would have been our wish that she could have seen herself as the world saw her-never truly grasping what a beautiful soul she was.

Bessie is survived by her five children, Jeanine (Merlin) Mitchell, Joanie Parker, Rod Talbot, Lynette (David) Talbot, and Christi Bongard; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren plus many neighborhood "grandkids" whom she proudly answered to as "Grandma Bessie". She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl; and her special Grandma and Grandpa Sheppard.

Our family would like to express a special thank you to CNS Hospice care and Ogden Regional Staff that provided her with loving care during her illness. Also, a special thank you to her three granddaughters, Brixi, Tawny, and Brielle, for the many devoted hours they spent taking care of their special grandma. Also, to the many friends, family, and neighbors that provided precious time to her. She cherished every visit.

Funeral services will be held on February 2, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
