WARREN — Charles DeArmond, 71, of Warren, died November 19, 1997, at Pine Lodge Nursing Home.

He was born on October 22, 1926, at Corinth, a son of the late Louis Gold DeArmond and Amy Barker DeArmond.

He was a retired naval commander. During his military career, he was the captain of three naval ships, served two tours during the Vietnam War and was involved with the Polaris missile tests. He received many awards, including two Bronze Stars, the Navy Commendation Medal with valor and the National Defense Medal. Kentucky designated him as a Kentucky Colonel and he was the commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter.

He and his wife lived at his farm at DeArmond Hill, at Warren, the last 20 years, after he retired from his military career. He attended the University of Louisville, where he majored in civil engineering, mathematics and naval science.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Jacks DeArmond; three sons, Charles Keith of Nashville, Durant Gerard DeArmond of Richmond, Virginia, and Lawrence Edward DeArmond of Las Cruces, New Mexico; two daughters, Linda Ann Patterson of Dallas and Denise Frances Konchalski of Las Cruces; two sisters, Inez Stout of Fort Worth and Mildred O'Neal of Harrison; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements are handled by Frazer's Funeral Home at Warren.
