Funeral services honoring her life will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Coy officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bertie was born on September 3, 1917 in Mattoon the daughter of Edward and Mary Etta (Webster) Beals. She married George H. Hall on May 2, 1942. They celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to his death on December 27, 2005.
Survivors include her sons, Wendell “Woody” (Angie) Hall of Pfafftown, NC, Frederick “Rick” (Dalena) Hall of Mattoon, IL and Phillip Hall of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Andy) Suber of Lawrence, KS, Brian (Megan) Hall of Topeka, KS, Doug Hall of Chicago, IL, Greg Hall of Naperville, IL and Clayton Hall of Charleston, IL; great grandchildren, Ben, Ellie, Emmery and Owen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bertie was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Bertie retired from Mattoon Community School District Unit #2 where she was a cook. She was a member of the Marshall Avenue Christian Church. Bertie was also a long-time member of the YMCA where she was active in swim aerobics until the age of 95. Bertie enjoyed flowers, birds especially hummingbirds, playing cards and she was particularly fond of spending time with the ‘girls’ in the swim aerobics class. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a cherished part of her life. Bertie was an excellent cook and always made her grandchildren’s favorite dishes for them. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Memorial donations in her honor are suggested to the Mattoon YMCA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
