Canadian businessman, politician, soldier. He was President of Stanfields Ltd., textile manufacturers, and Acadia Trust Company, both of Truro, Nova Scotia. Elected to the Parliament of Canada, the Hon. John Stanfield served from November 28, 1907 to December 16, 1917. A Lieutenant-Colonel with the Colchester and Hants Rifle Corps Reserves, he left political life to serve overseas during World War I, leading the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade. On February 17, 1921, he was appointed by Prime Minister Arthur Meighen to the Senate of Canada where he served until his passing on January 22, 1934.
