MADISON - Services for Vera Scheer, 95, of Madison will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Green Garden, with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Resseguie Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Wilke will officiate.

She died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Countryside Home.

Vera was born April 10, 1913, in rural Madison County, the daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Sattler) Zessin. She was baptized on May 4, 1913, and confirmed on March 28, 1926, at St. John Lutheran Church, Green Garden. She attended St. John Lutheran School.

On March 3, 1936, she married Ronald Scheer at St. John. They farmed in Madison County until 1964 when they moved to Madison where they owned and operated Scheer Woodworking until retirement.

Vera was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and Missionary League where she served as chairman and held various offices in those organizations. She was known in the Madison community for her rose and flower gardens and as Madison's "alteration lady." She moved to Countryside Home in April 2008.

Survivors include daughters L. and J. Jacobi of Norfolk, J. and J. Gunson of Green Valley, Ariz., and R. and B. Miller of Ossining, N.Y. She is also survived by grandchildren L. and R. Oertwich of Pilger, R. and J. Jacobi of Black Duck, Minn., J. and C. Kreitman of Kissimmee, Fla., and E. Conwell of Ossining, N.Y. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren and her sister, Francis Tessum of Norfolk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, on May 9, 1994, her parents and her siblings, Arthur Zessin, Clara Mann, Walter Zessin, Viola Sparks and Harold Zessin.
