Tupelo - Longtime Tupelo banker, James Terry Beasley Sr., 85, died February 11, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born January 2, 1932, in Union County to Thomas Reuben and Dorothy Marie Beasley. Terry spent his early child in the New Albany area until he was seven years old when his family moved to Tupelo. He was a part of Tupelo High School's 1950 graduating class. After high school Terry joined The United States Air Force and was stationed in Thule, Greenland during the Korean Conflict. After his military service he attended Mississippi State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He married the love of his life Larue Canon on April 17, 1959. Terry went to work with Commercial Credit for a few years before going to work for First Citizens National Bank which later became Deposit Guaranty National Bank. He enjoyed a banking career of 40 years until his retirement on June 30, 1998. Terry was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Tupelo Civitan club. He loved to read and continued a tradition of his mother by keeping logs and notes of the thousands titles he read throughout his life. Terry also loved to hunt, fish, and spend quality time with his family. Terry was the true definition of a family man.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Larue Beasley; two sons, Terry Beasley (Jane) of Amory and Jason Beasley (Carolyn) of Tupelo; two brothers, Bobby Beasley (Dottie) of Tupelo and Larry Beasley (Ann) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Nicholas Beasley, Allison Beasley, Meredith Beasley and Morgan Beasley.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Thomas Beasley and Dorothy Tate.

Public visitation will be 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday. A private family prayer service will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo with Rev. Jim Yates officiating. A private graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.
