THE HERALD STATESMAN, YONKERS, N.Y., THURSDAY, APRIL 27, 1933

Samuel Kaufman, part owner of the Farragut Inn, Hastings, and a former Yonkers resident, died early today at his home on Olinda Avenue, Hastings. He had been in declining health for two years and for the past two days had been in a coma. Mr. Kaufman returned to his home six weeks ago from Miami, where he went in an effort to regain his health. Death was attributed to hardening of the arteries. He was 48. A son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kaufman, he came to the U.S. as a boy. He resided in Yonkers for a short time, moving to Hastings 30 years ago. With his brother he operated a cafe on Spring Street, Hastings, and in 1914 they established a hotel and cafe, now known as Farragut Inn, at Spring Street and Warburton Avenue. It is the meeting place of numerous fraternal and civic groups. Mr. Kaufman was a member of Protection Engine Fire Company of Hastings, the Yonkers Lodge of Elks, and the Independent Israelites of the Ohab Zedak Synagogue on Prospect Street. He leaves his wife, a son Jesse; his mother; brothers, Morris Kaufman, associated with him in the management of the inn, and Harry of Yonkers. Two sisters, Mrs.Louis Schoen and Mrs. Benjamin Roth, both of Yonkers, also survive. Funeral services tomorrow at the home; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
