ELIZABETH HARKNESS WITH HER LOVED ONES

Mrs. Elizabeth Harkness, a resident of Tuolumne county since early childhood, died at 9 o'clock last Sunday morning at the Bromley sanitarium from cancer of the breast. She had been ill for the past three years, finally her condition reaching such a degree of seriousness that hospital care was required. She entered the hospital 5 months ago, where the medical treatment prescribed by Dr. Bromley and the care of his nurses undoubtedly prolonged her life. Deceased was a native of Massachusetts and aged 72 years, according to records revealed in the Records office. She came to this county with her parents, a child of 5 or 6 years of age, in the early 60's. The family settled in Saw Mill Flat, where the father, the late Owen Donegan, followed
mining for many years. In 1886 deceased was married to A.M. Harkness, who for some years mined on the Flat and subsequently drove stage between this city and Milton. Thirty years ago the couple moved to Sonora and later they lost their son, Eddie. Upon the death of Mr. Harkness, some years later, Mrs Harkness was left alone. Mrs. Harkness was well known and in her younger days was quite prominent in social events, notably in Columbia at the famous old time parties given in that town. She had many friends in many sections who regretted that lingering illness was to preface her ending. Her funeral was held from O'Beirne
undertaking parlors Tuesday afternoon, Rev. James Gilmartin, pastor of the St. Patrick church conducting the services. A goodly number of old friends were in attendance and a large delegation of Native Daughters were present. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in the family plot.
