Gwendoline "Gwenny" James, formerly of Clarks Summit and Scranton, died Thursday at Abington Manor Nursing Home, Clarks Summit, following an illness.

Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Gwen Evans Hopkins.

She was a graduate of Lackawanna Business College and was a retired clerk in the delinquent tax office of Lackawanna County.

She had been an active member of the former Welsh Women's Society of Lackawanna County. She was a member of the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton James, in 1959; sisters, Jenet Gilbert and Margaret Lewis; and a granddaughter.

Surviving are her sons, William James, Lake Winola; Robert James, Newton; and Milton Jr., Scranton; daughters, Nancy Calderone, Mountaintop; and Judith Hunter, Justus; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday from the Davies & Jones Funeral Chapel, 135 S. Main Ave., Scranton, conducted by the Rev. Rebecca Tanner, Presbyterian clergy.

Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Montdale.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Abington Manor Activity Fund, 100 Edella Road, Clarks Summit, 18411.
