Friend from the same squad in the 5th Mechanized. I met Charlie upon my arrival at the 25th Division in April of 1966. We became the best of friends, and even though I only knew him for a few months before his death on the 28th of July, he is in my thoughts always. It has been 34 years and these scars still haven't healed. REST IN PEACE my friend. Hey, Charlie here it is 34 yrs. later and I remember it like it happened yesterday. I guess that this pain will remain with me for the rest of my life. The summer of 1966 was the worst time of my life because I lost my two best friends, Trunkhahn on May 15th and you on the 24th of July. I'm now 55 yrs. old and a Grandfather, how I wish that you guys had experienced the joys of grandsons. I miss you daily and think of that tragic day constantly and think about your family and how they must miss you. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND. Arthur Lopez, Bell Gardens, Ca. 90201-1916.
He was the son of Mrs. Ed Anderson, Route 2, Saint Pauls, North Carolina.
He served with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment Mechanized, "Bobcats", 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
