Everybody in Peekskill knew Horace
Durrin, and therefore the community was
startled on Thursday to learn that he had
died at one o'clock on that day. He had
complained a few days, but had only been
confined to the house since Tuesday morning.
His fatal disease was the dreaded
pneumonia, which is carrying off so many
persons the present winter. Mr. Dorrin
was born in Southington, Conn., in 1811,
and was consequently 69 years and 9
months of age at the time of his death. —
At the age of 6 years he removed to Peekskill
with his parents, and has ever since
been a resident of our village. For a
number of years he was a member of the
police force in New York city, and has
held the same position in our village many
years at different periods, and was a town
constable and the night watchman at the
time of his death. In personal appearance
he was the model police officer,
standing six feet high and large in proportion.
His familiar figure will be greatly
missed from our streets. He was a
half-brother of the late William Durrin, a
prominent character in the politics of this
section for many years. The funeral services
will be held from his late residence
on Abbey street, at two o'clock to-day.
