Robert “Radar” Patton, 60, of Shawneetown, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He was born on November 29, 1956 in Eldorado, the son of late John Robert and Margie Marie (Holloway) Patton. He married Nancy J. Howard on June 2, 1979. Radar is well known in the community as the Police Chief of Shawneetown for over thirty years. He also coached for many years hundreds of Gallatin County children and teens in basketball, baseball and softball. His passion was as an avid hunter of coon, squirrel and rabbits. Radar was a member of the Shawneetown Presbyterian Church, Illinois Coaches Assn., and the Gallatin County Coon Club. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Patton of Shawneetown; two sons, Shane and Kylie Patton of Shawneetown, John Drake Patton also of Shawneetown; one sister, Debbie and Don Fromm of Shawneetown; two grandchildren, Zayne Robert and Zoey Grace Patton. Visitation for Radar will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gallatin County School near Junction. Funeral service will be at the school on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Arron Phelps officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. The Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown will be in charge of arrangements.
