She was preceded in death by her Father William Lawrence Dumas Jr., Mother, Aleta McDonald “Donald” Berry Dumas, brother William Lawrence Dumas lll (Betsy).
She is survived by her Husband Robert Vincent Schanbacher of 50 years. Her children, Robert Wilhelm Schanbacher, and wife Sondra of Oregon City, Oregon. Mary Jackson and husband Frank of Atlanta Georgia; grandchildren, Virginia, Zachariah, and Robert Jackson, Ella and Ian Schanbacher, and her brothers William Berry Dumas (Nell deceased); Dr. John H. Dumas ll and his wife Anne of Mountain Brook, Alabama, and many nieces and nephews.
Aleta attended Ramsey High School and graduated from Shades Valley High School, where she held more than one class office. She continued her education at Vanderbilt University and graduated in 1964. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority while at Vanderbilt. She became a middle school teacher and on February 4, 1967 married Robert.
She was a wonderful loving person, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. She was an active member of Highlands United Methodist Church growing up and returned to Highlands in her later years. She was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, Daughters of the American Revolution (John Parke Curtis Chapter), and several other social groups.
There will be a memorial service held Saturday, February 25, 2017, 11:00 AM at Ridout's chapel in Homewood. The burial will be private for the family fowling the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
