A financier, he began his education in Illinois and in Wisconsin; he rose through the ranks of Comstock-Castle company. He was secretary there.
He bought part of the Smith Hill Foundry and Machine company. Otis Elevator bought the business. Then Otis made Charles Comstock sales manager for every territory west of Buffalo New York. He then became VP of Otis.
Charles Comstock was instrumental in bringing an Otis Elevator company factory to Quincy Illinois.
He passed away at Wade Park Manor hotel in Cleveland Ohio. Floral tributes filled the church, as Reverend Robert L. Logan led services at Congregational church in Quincy Illinois. Interment was at Woodland in Quincy.
