Charles and his friend Henry Hezekiah Dee were murdered in 1964. They were two black college men that was kidnapped outside an ice cream stand in Meadsville. Later their bodies were found in the Mississippi River. After 4+ decades, James Ford Seale (his family for many years thought that he was dead, but found alive during a 2005 documentary film that was being made my Moore's brother Thomas) has been charged with the kidnapping in connection of the deaths of the two men. They were killed during the civil rights movement by members of the KKK.
